Where is the Opera District located?

The neighbourhood of Downtown is called "the world's most prestigious square kilometre" and there are numerous reasons for this. Encompassed by Al-Mustaqbal Street and Mohammed bin Rashid Boulevard, the neighbourhood is home to Dubai's top landmarks including the 828-metre Burj Khalifa, the Dubai Fountain, the Dubai Mall, the world's largest shopping mall and the Burj Park area, overlooking all these attractions.

How can I get from the Opera District to the popular tourist sights?

Business Bay is within walking distance (about a 15-minute walk) from Downtown.

One of Dubai's largest neighbourhoods, Jumeirah, stretches along the Persian Gulf. Its top iconic spots are the Dubai Marina and the artificial island of Pearl Jumeirah. Downtown is a 20-minute drive from here. It takes a little longer to get there by public transport. To get to Pearl Jumeirah, you need to take the metro at The Dubai Mall (or Burj Khalifa), change at the Max station to the Green Line and get off at the Etihad Museum. This trip will take 55 minutes. If you need to get to the Dubai Marina, you can take the metro in the opposite direction - to Sobha Realty, change to the tram, go one stop and get off at Jumeirah Beach Residence 1.

The entertainment complex Dubailand, twice the size of Disneyland in Florida, is home to many interesting spots. For example, in the Global Village, you can visit pavilions with national goods from over 90 countries. The Opera District is a 25-minute drive from this spot. Within 40 minutes you can reach Al Sahra Desert Resort - Dubai's desert resort, which includes an oriental bazaar, luxurious villas and restaurants.

Bur Dubai is a popular destination among tourists and residents of the city as it’s home to the historic Al Bastakiya area and the Dubai Museum in the ancient fort. Getting here by public transport is very easy because, from the Dubai Mall Station, you can get directly to the oldest part of the city by metro. If you want to walk around the area, you need to go directly to the ADCB station. And to visit the National Museum, you’ll have to skip one more station, make a change and get off at Sharaf DG.

Where to go shopping in the Opera District

When it comes to shopping, the Opera District is a great destination for shoppers as the Dubai Mall, one of the largest shopping malls in the world, is situated nearby.

What should you know so that you don’t get lost?

  1. The mall houses the Fashion Island - 44,000 square metres of luxury designer boutiques.
  2. Children can play at the KidZania entertainment and educational centre while you are shopping.
  3. Don't forget to visit the Dubai Mall Aquarium, one of the world's largest aquariums.
  4. The Ice Rink is equal in area to the Olympic one.
  5. The parking lot of the shopping centre can accommodate 14,000 cars.

There are also other shopping destinations worth visiting in the Opera District. For example, Souk Al Bahar means "sailor's market". This mall is situated almost completely on the water and is stylized as an oriental bazaar. Here you can find carpets, antiques and other home décor items and accessories.

If you don’t have time for long walks around the vast area of the Dubai Mall, you can go to the supermarkets in the Opera District: Spinneys, Geant Express and Grandiose.

Schools and kindergartens in the Opera District

Every year, a special commission ranks schools in Dubai from "weak" to "outstanding". The schools in the Opera District are rated "outstanding" or "very good". In total, there are 12 educational institutions near the community, including the elementary schools the Horizon English School and the Jumeirah English Speaking School. Both schools are private and use the British curriculum. You can get to the first school in 10 minutes by car or in half an hour by metro. The second school is 13 minutes away by car or 50 minutes by bus F20.

There’s no rating system for the nurseries in the UAE, but the nearest preschools to the Opera District are:

Public transport in the Opera District includes the metro and buses. The Burj Khalifa (The Dubai Mall) and Business Bay stations are located in the community. There is also a bus stop near them. In addition, the Mazaya Centre and Safest Way stops are also located on Sheikh Rashid Road. There are other bus stops at 8 Boulevard Walk Tower, Burj Khalifa, the Palace Hotel and the Dubai Mall, Main Entrance.
