Rules for processing documents for the animal transportation

The import of pets into the country requires compliance with strict rules established by the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment (MOCCAE). The execution of the relevant documents is an integral part of this process. First, you need to apply for import. This can be done online on the Ministry’s website. It is important to take into account the validity period of the permit − 30 days from the date of issue. During this time, the animal must be in the UAE. You have the right to issue a permit for the import of two pets per year.

Required documents

Having all the necessary documents for importation into the UAE is an important step to ensure safety and welfare of animals, as well as compliance with the laws and regulations of the country. It is recommended to start the process of preparing and processing documents in advance to avoid unforeseen delays and problems at the entrance.

  1. An international veterinary passport is the main document that must be carried when importing four-legged animals into the country. The passport must contain information about the number of the microchip of the animal (it will not be allowed into the country without a chip), a full description of the pet, including the type, colour, gender, and date of birth, as well as a list of vaccinations with vaccination dates.
  2. The veterinary certificate confirms the absence of external parasites and the health of the animal, which must be examined at least 5 days prior to departure (the period may vary to a lesser extent).
  3. Certificate of vaccination against rabies. If this is the first vaccination, the animal must be vaccinated at least 21 days before entry into the country. This interval is not required for a second vaccination. The certificate is issued by the state veterinary station and contains information about the type of vaccine, the date of vaccination and its validity period.
  4. A test made by an accredited laboratory confirming the presence of rabies antibodies in the animal.

Rules of flight with pets

When organising a flight, you should carefully familiarise yourself with the rules established by the selected airline. Let’s consider the basic requirements for transporting animals by plane in order to plan a safe and comfortable trip with pets:

  1. Booking and notification. No later than 48 hours before departure must you contact the airline and book a seat for your pet. It is better to do this before buying tickets, since carriers have restrictions on the number of animals that can be taken on board.
  2. Veterinary requirements. You will have to provide the carrier with an up-to-date health certificate and an animal passport. The certificate must confirm that your pet is healthy, vaccinated against rabies and has undergone appropriate treatment against external parasites.
  3. Type of container. The carrier must be strong, safe and provide sufficient space and ventilation for the animal.
  4. Many airlines do not allow animals to fly in the cabin, even if they weigh up to 8 kg with a carrier.

You can view detailed information about the rules for booking tickets and transporting animals on the website of the selected airline or request from the customer support consultants.

Where to stay with animals in the UAE?

It is important to know that not all residential complexes in the UAE allow living with four-legged friends. We have selected several locations where pets are allowed:

  • Arabian Ranches is an exclusive residential area offering townhouses and villas in Dubai, adapted to accommodate animals. There are extensive parks and green lawns, ideal for walking and active games with your pets.
  • Jumeirah Village Circle (JVC) offers a wide selection of villas and apartments in Dubai. Many of them accept pets and are located close to park areas and walking areas.
  • There are several types of real estate in Dubai available in Motor City, where pets are allowed. The community belongs to the pet-friendly type; there are many open spaces on its territory that allow pets to walk.

It is important to note that the rules and policies of accommodation with animals may vary significantly in different residential complexes and areas of the UAE. Before choosing a place to stay with a pet, it is recommended to clarify detailed information. Keep in mind that when placing animals in the country, additional certificates, veterinary certificates, and insurance may also be required. Be ready to provide all the necessary documents.
