Department of Health–Abu Dhabi updated health insurance requirements for Golden Visas

New requirements make the application process simpler and more accessible to those who wish to obtain it.

The Department of Health–Abu Dhabi (DoH) in collaboration with the Abu Dhabi Residents Office (ADRO) has announced an update for the health insurance requirements for the Golden Visa applicants. This is aimed at making the application process easier for all those applying from inside and outside of the country and facilitate a smooth transition for them to live and settle in the emirate of Abu Dhabi.

The Department of Health revealed the required guidelines to health insurance and issuing of Golden Visa in the emirate of Abu Dhabi.

According to the guidelines, Golden Visa applicants fall into two main categories: the first category includes employees working in Abu Dhabi whose employers must continue to bear the costs for their health insurance as required by the UAE laws.

The second category includes Golden Visa applicants that fall outside the first category. They will be required to present health insurance coverage for themselves and their family members valid throughout the whole period that they live in the UAE.

In case if the applicant for Golden Visa does not have the health insurance cover, they must sign an undertaking to provide it else they will bear all costs related to their healthcare & medical services, if needed.

The updated Golden Visa requirements make the application process simpler and more accessible to those who wish to obtain it.

The Golden Visa program was launched by the UAE Government and is available for different categories like international investors and talent from around the world. Individuals can apply for five- or ten-years visas depending on their category. Golden Visa holders are eligible to live, work and study in Abu Dhabi without the need for a sponsor.

Those who can apply for Golden Visa include professionals in the fields of science and knowledge, such as doctors, specialists, scientists and inventors; creative and sporting talent as well as business, start-up and real estate investors.

The aim of the Golden Visa program is to attract talent to contribute to Abu Dhabi's long-term development and add value to the emirate's economy. It has been launched to safeguard Abu Dhabi’s future and give global talents the opportunity to build fulfilling and lasting careers in the country.
