Expo City Dubai will fully pedestrianized

Expo City Dubai will be completely pedestrian-friendly, focused on the needs of residents, environmentally self-sufficient and clean. Limited mobility, movement around the territory using buggies, scooters and bicycles will be available to tenants and visitors of Expo City Dubai.

A human-centric space free of cars and heavy vehicles, Expo City Dubai will promote Expo 2020's legacy of sustainable development.

Ahmed Al Khatib, Chief Development and Delivery Officer at Expo 2020 Dubai, said Expo City would be fully pedestrianized, and cars would not be allowed as tenants can use soft mobility options.

Earlier, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the ruler of Dubai, announced a transformation plan for Expo 2020.

The Expo site is currently being reconstructed according to a new plan and will be called Expo City Dubai.

Al Khatib said that the Expo team is reviewing the plan to turn the space into a "city within a city" that meets all the needs of modern residents.

"The first change is that the city will become pedestrian. We are considering various ways of soft mobility, such as buggies, scooters, bicycles, etc. We will also encourage public transport, as well as the increasing integration of the metro station," Al Khatib said.
