Features of the project

The new mega-project, which is expected to reach the 2-km height, will be more than twice as high as Dubai's Burj Khalifa, the world's highest building, which is 828-m. high (at this point).

The tower will be a part of an 18 sq. km. development in Riyadh. It is reported that the adjacent land plot to King Khalid International Airport has been determined for construction.

According to the sub-contractors, the ultimate construction might cost around $5 billion. It is based on the prices of nearby towers.

The vivid embodiment of the idea

According to people involved with the project, a design competition was also established, inviting real estate developers, architects, construction experts, and project managers to submit designs for the mega-building.

A number of architectural firms were encouraged to participate in the project during its early stages, reports say, with names such as:

  • Skidmore;
  • Owings & Merrill (SOM);
  • Adrian Smith & Gordon Gill Architecture.

Future prospects

The kingdom is predicted to be the largest construction site in the world by 2030. It is currently experiencing a mega-project boom with many projects in development.
